How to Determine Your Keyword Ratio Using Microsoft Word

As an article writer/article marketer you are probably aware of the importance of using keywords or keyword phrases in your article. There are two main points about keywords that you as an article writer must keep in mind. First your keywords or keyword phrases must appear naturally in your article. When a reader, this means a real person, reads the article you want it to flow naturally and not feel "stuffed" with keywords. The second keyword point to remember is your keyword density or keyword ratio. This is how many times your keyword or keyword phrase appears in your article.

Microsoft Word is undoubtedly the most common word processing software on the market today and it has a built in feature that can help you determine your keyword ratio.

Here are the steps to determine your keyword ratio in Microsoft Word;

  1. Write your original quality article as usual in Microsoft Word or cut and paste your article into Word.
  2. When finished with the article click on the Tools drop down menu and then click Word Count. This will give you statistics on your article. You are interested in Words, this tells you how many words are in your article. Write this number down.
  3. Next click on the Edit drop down menu and then click Replace. In the 'Find what' box type your keyword or keyword phrase. Then in the 'Replace with' box type the exact same keyword or keyword phrase. Click the Replace All button.
  4. You will now get a pop up window that tells you how many replacements were made. Write this number down.

The final step is to calculate your keyword ratio. Remember that first number you wrote down, this number should be the larger of your two numbers. Take out a calculator and divide the larger number by the smaller number. Example; Word Count 312, Replacements 25, 312/25=12.48. 12.48 is your keyword ratio. With this built in feature in Microsoft Word you can quickly and easily track your keyword ratio when you are writing original article to publish online.
